- Full Description
This often unfairly forgotten 11-strong series (of which this volume captures the first seven issues) surely boasted some of the most magnificent covers (and well-drawn stories) of any of the EC wannabes of some sixty-plus years ago--that master cover artist is Maurice Whitman. Plus Jack Kamen.
Check out the cover for #6! Plus you get EC's very own Jack Kamen regularly popping up inside. Wonderful stuff. This was material that suggested unpleasantness rather than just stepped forward and pulled the old schlock-it-up lever. Heartily recommended for the more discerning horror comics reader.
Johnny Bell, Bill Discount, Benulis & Abel also contribute. But it's the superlative fine-line work of Raphael Astarita (artist of Futura in Planet Comics) that stands out here, along with lots of Jack Kamen. There's even a lone sci-fi strip, "No World For Me." It really is a surprise how well much of this material holds up, from a title that's rarely showcased in pre-code horror collections.
And watch out for the second volume which completes the run with Ghost's final four issues and adds in the complete brace of issues of Fiction House's Monster Comics. Hooo, wait'll you see those babies!
Note: This has some overlaps with Girls and Ghosts of Fiction House. That book collects one story from each of these Ghost issues (each issue has four stories) along with the covers of all 11, plus other Ghost Gallery stories from Jumbo Comics, whereas this book collects the complete contents of seven issues, 28 stories in all.
