Collects #1-5, 1953-54. Recommended. Art by Jay Disbrow, Iger Shop. This one's a wacky set of issues. Canadian publisher Superior Comics jumped into the four-color horror ring, first with Journey Into Fear, then Strange Mysteries and finally with this, calling itself variously Mysteries (its legal title) and Mysteries Weird and Strange. The earlier tales were bizarre and quirky. "Shrinking Horror," "Ghost on the Gallows," "Isle of Mad Revenge," "Call Me Monster," "Kidnaped in the Tomb," "Horror a la Mode," and lots more crazed, over the top horror.

Superior was an odd little company, who even while they were based in Canada, distributed their line throughout the U.S. Since the Iger Shop contributed material, they have much the same look as other Iger Shop titles from U.S. publishers. But somehow they often seem even stranger. It's always nice to see Jay Disbrow doing his offbeat work in a few stories here, but mostly they are trying to one-up the competition with skeletons, monsters, sweet revenge, threatened ladies, cold-blooded murder and any other mayhem they could dream up to capture ten cents from the 1950s comic readers.
