$49.99
Collects #1-6, 1951-52. Recommended. Art by Lou Cameron, A.C. Hollingsworth, Walter Johnson et al. Here's the first six-comic volume in the complete series, 25 issues, of Mysterious Adventures, an offbeat but highly-sought after title from the obscure publisher Story. Freaky fables including severed heads and bondage--and lots of cool skeletons, especially on the covers. These look a lot like Avon and Iger Shop titles, doing their bit to compete by getting more and more over the top on covers and stories. The fine Lou Cameron, better known for his work on the Ace horror titles contributes several excellent stories.

Other creators include Tony Tallarico, John D'Agostino, Ed Goldfarb et al. Avon's mainstay Walter Johnson does the cover for issue #1, which is why it looks so much like an Avon comic. Then Bill Fraccio takes over as cover artist and as a regular inside. He does a killer-great cover on #6, a giant moss-dripping skeleton rising out of the water to menace a young couple out for a rowboat ride.

Here's the synopsis of one of the typically outré stories: a cautionary yarn. Adventurer David Murstone and his lovely wife crash in the jungle and are severely injured. Jivaro goddess Konocry saves them by letting them drink from the "Pool of Eternity", thus gaining immortality. The Jivaro tribe disagrees with Konocry's action, so they torture the couple by shrinking their heads. Since they cannot die now, they have to endure eternity with shrunken heads.

Subsequent issues will include dagger in the eye, an eyeball story (!), extreme violence, dismemberment, Seduction of the Innocent material, electric chair, stories used by Wertham in the Senate hearings, and several EC swipes.
