- Full Description
This completes the run of this classic Charlton Pre-Code horror title and features stunning early work from the legendary Steve Ditko (many stories!) and DC's Dick Giordano, his early work. This is one of the must-have titles outside the EC Horror Canon, with wild, bizarre stories, extreme violence: a Necronomicon story, a Hansel & Gretel parody, injury-to-the-eye, Cinderella parody, lingerie panels, Ditko's 1st published work and first cover, an Alice in Wonderland parody, torture...it's all here!
Lawrence Watt-Evans provides a lengthy introduction offering an overview of the development of horror comics in the late 1940s through to the mid-1950s, continued from Volume 1. He is an expert on the period who often wrote for Comic Book Marketplace. Excellent, long feature with lots of extra pictures of pre-code comics.
Ditko is abundant here, with three stories in one issue, five in another, and far more. This extra-large collection features EIGHT complete issues, filled with excessive violence and extra-strange stories. The parodies of children's classics are especially fun, much in the EC style. This is today one of the most collectible pre-code horror titles and one of the most eccentric.
