Collects The Unseen #11-15 & Who Is Next? #5, 1953-54. Recommended. By Alex Toth, Nicky Cardy, George Tuska, Gene Fawcette et al. It was the 1950's — the Atomic Age, the Cold War, and just before the Space Race. Comics books were the education, the entertainment, and, according to some, the downfall of America. What a great time! We loved to be scared — still do, it seems —from the comfort of our own home, secure in the knowledge that there's no real danger (or so we think). Final issues of this excellent series from Standard, along with Who Is Next?, a suspense one-shot featuring a town terrorized by a serial killer.

Includes two stories by Alex Toth, and two by Mike Sekowsky, who at this time was strongly influenced by Toth's innovative work and at times is even hard to distinguish from Toth.

In Who is Next? Toth's story "The Crushed Gardenia” is a grim and powerful piece, with all his best innovations. It must say something that the Grand Comics Database notes that this has been reprinted at least EIGHT times over the years since.

This themed one-shot issue also includes "Don't Let Me Kill Again" in Sekowsky's Toth-ish style, and the great Nick Cardy does "The Destroyer." "Death on a Dark Street" gives us a surprise appearance by future Wonder Woman artist Ross Andru. The cover is by George Roussos, another unsung but excellent artist. You'll enjoy this.

Future Tarzan artist John Celardo is also here in the regular Unseen issues. His clean style set these issues above the average. Also Jack Katz is here, with his quirky and appealing unique style of horror. Ten years later he was beginning his 24-issue graphic novel, The First Kingdom, which I (Bud Plant) co-published over the span of ten years.

Stories include "The Sealed Coffin," "The Wolf Dancer," "The Death Wish," "Scream in the Night," "Death Tolls the Bell," "A Shroud of Vengeance," "The Fifth Corpse," "Skeleton's Gibbet," "Date with a Corpse" and lots more.
