$59.99
Limited, 700! #8-11 and Vol 2 #1-3, 1954-55. Recommended. By Al McWilliams, John Lehti, Frank Thorne, Mort Meskin et al. I never got to see the Tom Corbett TV show but I've eagerly tracked down all these cool issues from Dell and Prize. This is SF as it should be, with "space" substituted for "science". Here we see the wonder and unbelievable expanse of the cosmos that surrounds us, ringed planets and moons, space pirates, lost races, and even a spaceship graveyard. This book is for every boy that lives secretly inside every man who ever marveled at the saucer spaceship in Forbidden Planet.

Artists include Al McWilliams (who went on to create Twin Earths, and draw Rip Kirby, Buck Rogers and Star Trek), John Lehti, Frank Thorne (Red Sonja), Marvin Stein and longtime DC stalwart Mort Meskin. Marvin Stein was a regular contributor in the Simon & Kirby shop. And Mort Meskin's career began with DC in the Golden Age, continued with the S&K studio, and continued in the late 1950s and 1960s in DC's fantastic titles like House of Mystery and House of Secrets. His work here, for the last Prize Comics-published issues, is some of the best work of all.

This is a who's-who of comic book talent, taking on a mythic 1950s sci-fi character spun off from the classic early television series. And the painted covers on the Dell issues of course are one of the highlights. Dell had both the talent and the deep pockets to create some of the finest TV and film adaptations ever done for comics, and this was their heyday. Some of these painted covers are real classics.

This second volume has been meticulously compiled from the original source material and painstakingly digitally restored.

Volume Two features Dell Tom Corbett, Space Cadet #8 to #11, 1954 and then from publisher Prize, Tom Corbett, Space Cadet Vol 2 #1 May/Jun 1955, to Vol 2 #3 Sept/Oct 1955.
