Collects #1-7, 1952-53. Highly Recommended. By Jack Cole, Leo Morey, Charles Nicholas et al. No introductions this time, but instead we get SEVEN complete issues with a wild Cole story in EVERY issue--two stories in #2 and #6! And covers of 4 issues! Cole draws a "morphine use" story in #1, which made it into SOTI. Issue #5 has an electrocution cover and story! This wild title from Quality, publisher of Plastic Man & The Spirit, pulled out no stops on their desire to scare the pants off kids...and adults too.

This title has the lot, including persuasive evidence that animated corpses (that's zombies to you) used to be gray and had see-through rib-cages. Includes stories like "The Ship of Lost Souls," "Hideout in Hell," "The Strangling Hands" (featured on the cover with art by Jack Cole on both cover and art), "The Spector's Face" (Cole), "Orgy of Death" (Cole), "Laughter from Hell," "Dance of Death," "Satan's Spectacles," "Beast from Beyond" and "The Corpse That Wouldn't Die" (also, yes, by Cole)!

Death--it's everywhere! There's also "Custodian of the Dead," "Rehearsal for Death," "Makeup for Death," and "Hangman's Horror!" Whew!

PS Artbooks is collecting a lot of great pre-code horror, but this is one of the wildest. If you know Cole's work from Plastic Man, and his over-the-top crime stories for a competing publisher ("Blast the Rats," and "Murder, Morphine and Me"), you'll know just how wild he could get.

Longtime Blackhawk artist for both Quality and DC, Charles Cuidera, inks every cover here, even the four penciled by Cole. Web of Evil ran 18 issues, so this is the first of likely 3 volumes--Cole worked only up through #11.

Note: most or possibly all of the Jack Cole stories are also collected in Craig Yoe's 2013 collection Jack Cole's Deadly Horror Chilling Archives of Horror Comics #4.
