This volume concludes with the Misty Isles under attack and Queen Aleta perilously close to death. In the special feature, Brian M. Kane (Hal Foster: Prince of Illustrators, Father of the Adventure Strip) presents 12 more pages of wonderful Foster advertising art, in this case cool pictures promoting Johnson Outboard Motors!

Famed comic artist Neal Adams explains how as a young comics fan, he didn't "get" Prince Valiant. And then, finally he did..."It (Prince Valiant) made all the other comic books I read look cheesy because they were shorthand, whereas Foster's were like stills out of a great movie. He went to those places he illustrated and sketched. His costumes were authentic. His armor was like the armor I saw in museums, and it was put together correctly. His dragon was a crocodile. His demon-face mask was a chicken pulled inside out. I was seeing history and storytelling at the same time."

"Nobody else did this in comic books and comic strips, and I mean nobody else. Only Hal Foster...There were Sundays where I looked at his work and shook my head from side to side in disbelief that a man could do all this. His ships were perfect. The oars in the ships, the benches, everything was perfect. He actually studied stuff. If you didn't care about a character, you cared about his clothes, his shoes, his sword, his helmet. Everything multiplied to take you into a world that has since disappeared..."

"And the stories were real stories. They weren't fantasy. They were real."
