- Full Description
Val's young son Arn tries his hand at being a warrior, Merlin is bewitched by Nimue, and Tillicum and Boltar have a son named Hatha--the first interracial baby "born" in comics. Most of the second half of this volume follows Gawain and Val's pilgrimage to the holy city of Jerusalem, in a salute to the Crusades, and Queen Aleta's return to the Misty Isles where treacherous nobles seek her throne... and her death.
Also featuring a look at Prince Valiant's 1954 escapades on both the large and small screens by Foster scholar Brian M. Kane. Includes film posters, photos of the entire cast along with stars Robert Wagner and Janet Leigh, as well as Foster and his wife at the film premiere and on the set of "This Is Your Life."
Plus artist Mark Schultz provides the Foreword: "More Than Pretty Pictures: Storytelling Beyond Genre, Gender, and Medium." In it he includes a reproduction, from the original art, of a beautiful 1954 page starring Aleta, and explains how Foster's vivacious young wife was the inspiration for Aleta's character. Several photos of her from 1919 to 1930 are also here.
As with all the previous volumes in this highly acclaimed series, these pages are reproduced for the first time from Foster's personal set of color engraver's proofs, the most impeccably produced Prince Valiant series ever produced.
