Jacques Martin (1921 – 2010) was a French comics artist and comic book creator. He was one of the classic artists of Tintin magazine,  where he was a longtime collaborator with Hergé. He is best known for his series Alix, a kind of a French-language Prince Valiant. It stars an adolescent boy who grows up fast fighting and surviving one adventure after another in ancient, pre-gunpowder Europe and Egypt, in the times of Ben Hur and chariot races, swords and gladiators. Essays by Gaetan Akyuz, Stephane Beaujean, Romain Brethes, Pauline Ducret, Didier Pasamonik, and Yann Potin. Martin’s career began just after the war, in 1946, and ran for another 40 years. He began working on the character Tintin, but by 1949 had created the first Alix graphic album, which was followed by 18 more over the next 40 years!

He also created three Lefranc albums for publisher Le Lombard/Casterman, from 1952 to 1964.

The Alix albums include Le Sphinx d-or, Le Dieu Savage, Le Prince du Nil, Le Fils de Spartacus, Le Spectre de Carthage, and L’Empereur de Chine.
