Vintage full color pin-up photography, 1940s-1960s. Highly Recommended. Already a bestseller for us! It was the glamorous movie stars of the 1930s that first began the era of pin-up. Stars like Betty Grable and Jean Harlow oozed sexuality–many even posed nude. By the 1940s, this was a new phenomenon that sold millions of calendars and magazines–nudes, but provocative, never explicit, flirtatious but also freespirited. The images never crossed a certain moral line. And that’s what we have here, from Bettie Page, Marilyn Monroe to June Wilkinson, Diane Webber to Hollywood actresses moonlighting for some extra money. Description

Amazing models were posing for the paintings created by Elvgren, Vargas, Earl Moran, Fritz Willis and George Petty. Sexy women had a certain look in this time, idealized by the artists, but presented in the flesh in these amazing photographs. They were voluptuous but never too much so, curvy and the ideal of every man’s fancy. A beautiful woman shedding her clothes, with a twinkle in her eye, teasing the viewer.

That’s the world of calendar girls and that’s what we have collected here, many complete with the model or movie star’s name. Each one is full page, well-reproduced, and we have nearly 400 pages of ladies.

Selected from one of the largest photographic pin-up collections in the world. 350 commercial pin-up images, many from popular calendars, others never before seen, from the 1940s, ’50s, and ’60s. Reproduced with meticulous attention to detail, some of the most alluring and spellbinding women of the times.

From the Hollywood Glamour Girls section, see if you recognize any of these names: Diane Webber (in several shots), of course, but also we have Virginia De Lee in several shots, Goldie Brewer, Joanne Arnold (2), Arline Hunter (2), Marilyn Dean, Marilyn Waltz. Includes work from many of the major Hollywood studios, including Tom Kelley, who we find was the very first photographer to bump into Marilyn Monroe and realize her potential.

We also find Jayne Mansfield here, in several shots, plus June Wilkinson, Diana Dors,Terry Higgins, Virginia Gordon, Sin Linee, Marsha Jordan, Susan Clark (another Tom Kelly model). One of the calendar motifs was to have a humorous or naughty title for each picture, such as “Inviting,” “Sweet Dreams, “Shy but Sensation,” “Curves Ahead,” and these are also all kept here with the pictures. Also, many of the better known girls appear more than once here.

There are also several full calendars shown, which puts these in context.

From playful “girls next door” to Marilyn Monroe’s first pin-up, this is a must-have for any collector and is a classic tribute to the legendary pin-up queen.
