Description

Once a rising TV journalist, Jerri Bartman has a serious drinking problem — brought on by an event only hinted at so far. She has returned to her small Midwest hometown for a serious demotion, replacing the last host (who disappeared) of the local Creature Features. Appearing in full makeup so no one will recognize her, her acerbic commentary, love it or hate it, is captivating viewers…but her new job comes with real-life monsters and a secret, supernatural discovery that threatens life as we know it.

Her missing predecessor, Count Crowley, was one of the last “Appointed” hunters of monsters. Yes. Monsters. It’s 1983 and the outlook for humanity is getting . . . gnarly. Their only hope is Jerri–an alcoholic, bitter horror host from Missouri.

But Monsters? Everything we’ve ever been taught about monsters is a lie! And poor drunken Jerri is beginning to get scared sober.

This is quite a fun read and it’s perfectly drawn, very much in the style of Mike Ploog. I really like it, and am happy to see that although we get a good long story here, it’s just the beginning of the adventures. I do want to read more about this poor lady, whose drinking means NO ONE believes the truth of what is happening. It’s fun!!!

David Dastmalchian’s authorial comics debut with artist Lukas Ketner.

Collects the complete run in the first series. A second series, beginning a new storyline, begins in 2020. Well-drawn and a warped, wild tale.

“[Dastmaichian and Ketner] have created something comfortingly familiar and fun that simultaneously thrills and rewards the reader with also being something completely new! The deeper Jerri finds herself mired in mysteries of the macabre, the harder it is to wait for the next chapter!” -Kevin Smith (Clerks, Mallrats, Jay & Silent Bob)

“A brilliant take on perhaps the most beloved of all frightful institutions: the horror host.” -Josh Malerman (Bird Box)

“A pulpy and horrorful romp.” -Felicia Day (The Guild, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog)
