Description

Orphaned in the African jungle, the baby John Clayton, only child of the Lord and Lady Greystoke, is rescued by a tribe of great apes. The child, now named “Tarzan,” grows to manhood in this savage world among the fierce anthropoids. Aided by his keen knife and innate intelligence, Tarzan ascends to become king of the apes, able to face any peril and conquer all foes. When white men come to Tarzan’s jungle, they bring danger but also the love of his life, Jane Porter.

All of Tarzan’s cunning will be required if he is to defeat this threat, and win the love of Jane Porter, the beautiful young woman whose appearance in Tarzan’s jungle has left him forever changed.

Joe Jusko is doing a stunning job of creating new color dust jacket covers for each of these new novels. ERB plans to collect every ERB novel in new editions, and Jusko, at least for now, is the artist who will be painting every cover, and also a b&w frontis illustration for each one.

Each novel has a new Foreword–in this case, Jusko himself talks about illustrating the origin novel of all time. Also unique here is an Afterword by Scott Tracy Griffin, in which he talks about how this first novel came to be, and details the correspondence between ERB and All-Story editor Metcalf as the story developed and was serialized. Additional material includes these letters themselves, pictures of the first pulp and novel appearances, manuscript pages in facsimile, inscriptions by ERB for books gifted to his family, the first Tarzan film posters and much more.
