We handled the original Ghita graphic novel way, way back then, and it was one of our bestsellers. It’s fun to finally see Frank’s original artwork, and it really works well in this oversize Artist Edition format. You can see Frank’s influences, such as Alex Toth and a certain amount of inspiration from the European artists of the time, like Hugo Pratt, Druillet and Christin and Mezieres’ Valerian.

This initial volume showcases some of Frank’s earliest art of Ghita including her first appearance in the erotic epic, “Ghita of Alizarr,” early character designs, unproduced movie storyboards, the Wizard and Warrior Women portfolio, pin-ups and covers. Frank’s art is presented full size, as originally drawn. The artwork has been scanned from the original pages in color to ensure the closest reproduction.

This deluxe edition was first announced as 125 copies, but ended up being from 200. I am pleased to say our copies seem to be low numbers…I’m looking at #36 here. Frank has very boldly signed a special page reproducing a full color water color and ink drawing of Ghita, displayed here. It shows the high quality of reproduction, right down to the discoloration and bit of soiling to the original artwork! It’s a nice piece, and this edition is certainly the one to stretch to if you are debating between signed and regular editions. This also has a variant cover from the regular edition.
