Embleton is widely known in the comics world for his steamy Penthouse strip, Oh, Wicked Wanda.

Here we see the same skill he showed in Penthouse, with unique faces, anatomy, and great detail. His coloring skill also has to be pointed out; he used it to make the characters far more realistic than the typical artist, like John Bolton and even Frazetta could pull off on their painted works.

“Embleton has been long regarded as one of the U.K.’s finest comic artists. He’s a contemporary of Frank Bellamy, John Burns, Don Lawrence and Frank Hampson…with his own distinct take on the subject matter and his sublime mastery of figure drawing. He worked across a variety of genres — from military to fantasy to the erotic.”

The illustrations here were primarily done for the magazine This England, a project he began in 1974. Since a child he’d been interested in history, so all his skills and interest in period scenes and costumes come into play here. Never before collected.
