Description

Illustration Magazine celebrates their 20th year. The entire issue showcases the work of Peter Helck, the brilliant illustrator best known for his action-packed automotive illustrations of the 1930s, ’40s, and ’50s. Lots of original art, rare tear sheets and photographs combine with a book-length story on Helck’s life and work.

This includes examples of his work from Esquire, True, The Lamp, Saturday Evening Post, Country Gentlemen, Ladies Home Journal, Pictorial Review, and American Magazine

And we also are treated to examples of his advertising work for all these companies and more: General Electric, Champion Spark Plugs, Ford Trucks, Republic Steel, Mack Trucks, Tydol Oil, PM Whisky, Chevrolet Trucks, Johnny Walker, Campbell’s, Caterpillar, and American Locomotive. He did illustrated calendars for several of these. Also here are many private commissions from as recently as the 1970s, after he’d retired from commercial work but was still in high demand among racing, auto and truck enthusiasts.

Book reviews, exhibitions and events, and more round out the issue!
