A collector’s edition celebrating the 80th anniversary of the first appearance of one of the most iconic characters in the Marvel universe of comic books, with Captain America Comics #1, in March 1941. This full color, well documented survey takes us through milestones in comic book history of the Super Soldier, featuring covers, original art, behind-the-scenes facts and information about the authors and artists who brought the legend to life!
It all begins with Cap #1 in 1941, by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. A mainstay of the Timely comics along with The Human Torch and The Sub-Mariner, Cap starred in not just his own title but many others. Bucky even had his own team of fighters in The Young Allies. Then it’s a hiatus for several years until Cap’s revived by Timely in 1954, with art by the future Spider-Man artist, John Romita, Sr.
Next he’s gone again, only to be fished out of the ocean in Avengers #4, which begins his Silver Age career that has been uninterrupted until today. Art, facts, stories…a handsome celebration of all that has been Cap over the years. With lots of great Kirby art, of course, as well as Jim Steranko’s amazing 1960s stories and much more.
Even Ed Brubaker and Kurt Busiek’s eras are covered. And there’s the Winter Soldier, all the Falcon co-history from the very first appearance, and much more.
