Description

Eight major graphic novels from 1968–1986 plus five new features, “About Valentina,” “Story Notes,” Crepax Biography,” etc. “The Man from Harlem” is Crepax’s ode to boxer Joe Louis and jazz. Valentina meets Louise Brooks in “Pandora’s Box,” makes love to an astronaut in space, lets herself go in every possible fetish lovemaking experience in “Magic Lantern” and these other tales. Pretty explicit, lots of nudity. The lovely Valentina is a model-like innocent who, like the literary Justine, is subjected to every sexual proclivity.

Also here is “Bonnie and Clyde,” “Dixie Dugan,” “Silent Alphabet,” and “Nobody”. Each of these was first published as a major, hardcover album of its own.

Introduction by Barbara Uhlig, who also provides the biography. Francesco Casetti writes “About Valentina.” The “Story Notes” are by five contributors and go on for 14 pages, so you know they are thorough. And if you are like me, it’s easy to read a Crepax story and come away asking “what really happened here,” so these could prove quite interesting!

The globetrotting photographer (well, she LOOKS like a model) Valentina (a movie and TV star herself!) takes center stage in this collection of erotic comics stories.

Oversized, 457 pages. Short color sections at the beginning and end, but the main stories were done and remain in pure black and white.
