Highly Recommended. By Marvano. I really like this–it’s a very different look at World War II. In the waning years of the war, as the tragic plight of the European Jews was coming to light in ever more horrific detail, a Jewish fighting force, known as the Jewish Infantry Brigade Group, was born as part of the British Eighth Army. Leslie Toliver, a former race car driver, eagerly joined the all-volunteer force for a chance to fight with his own people against those who sought to murder them. The war is over, but now they are trying to save refugees and take vengeance on Nazis hiding out or fleeing the country. And there’s a young Jewish girl they rescued who’s grown up and fighting a new battle against Arabs and British colonists, for a homeland in Palestine. Dead Reckoning, 2021.

When the war in Europe ended, the continent was sitting on the brink of continental civil war from chaos, terror, and famine; Leslie and the Brigade move to Tarvisio, Italy, a border triangle city perfect for covert action. While out searching for Holocaust survivors, Leslie undertakes vigilante missions in Soviet-occupied Eastern Europe hunting down Nazis on the run,  both for vengeance and justice. With each Nazi found or refugee rescued, he looks for more information to complete his most personal mission: to find his mother and fiancée who went missing in the upheaval of the war.

A multi-part epic, first published in Holland and now translated. Outstanding story and artwork, it’s a riveting page turner. Our race car driver and his partner have balls of steel, even going AWOL to get their own personal missions accomplished. One includes stealing 20 convoy trucks to get Jews out of a city about to change from British to Russian hands….the Russians have no love for the Jews.

The story begins as Toliver recognizes a Nazi prison camp officer, now posing as a priest at a children’s school. He asks the priest to hold the picture of him, posing in front of six hanged Jews, while he casually screws a silencer onto his gun. Three pops and one more mass murderer is no more. That’s how Toliver meets (and saves) the young Jewish girl who is suddenly part of their team…
