Although the cover of this first issue is tame, Weird went on to publish the most bizarre, hideously violent, and gory covers ever seen in comics. The first issue is a hard-to-obtain, high-priced collector’s item usually found in terrible condition due to the exceedingly cheap paper it was printed on. This facsimile faithfully reproduces the entire first issue on much better paper stock that will last!!

Originally entitled “Eerie” but Warren jumped the gun by publishing Eerie #1 very quickly as an ashcan comic to secure the copyright. So the title of this comic magazine was changed at the last minute to Weird and they used Eerie Publications for their company name. Publisher Robert Farrell, who published under the Farrell imprint in the early 1950s, saw the success of the Warren magazines Creepy and Eerie and wanted some of the action. With no comics code to deal with, being a magazine, he could freely reprint prurient horror stories all he wanted. Later on, he’d solicit new material but always on the edge of good taste.

It worked, this new incarnation lasted for 15 years, reprinted Ditko’s first comic story, a classic LSD story and more grisly fare. See where it started in this first magazine-sized replica edition.
