This very first in a series of wonderful, well-written new adventures of the pulp hero and his team. The deluded ravings of a madman and the absence of all sea life around a New England fishing village lure Doc Savage and his crew to an obscure island bristling with gunmen. The trail of terror leads to the ravaged coasts of Occupied Japan. There they fall into the clutches of an evil genius long believed dead, a shadowy figure who masterminded World War II… and who now seeks to plunge humanity into a fresh Armageddon.

Trained by the same teacher, both possessed of a similar genius, Doc Savage and this malicious mastermind have fought before. And now, as the world lurches toward another global war, the Man of Bronze must defeat his most loathsome adversary yet….

Will Murray is not only the expert who adds his "Interlude" details to every issue of the Doc pulp reprints, as well as The Shadow...but he's also written a number of new Doc adventures. Collectively these are known as "The Wild New Adventures" series, of which this was the first. Using an unfinished manuscript that the original Doc writer, Lester Dent, left in his papers, Murray has improved and finished this tale with all the excitement of the original adventures.

Murray also wrote the new adventure of Tarzan, Return to Pal-ul-don, which remains my personal favorite of all the new Tarzan adventures, and as good, and, dare I say it, better than some of ERB's original novels.

Note: In case you are confused that the book actually says by Kenneth Robeson on its cover--Robeson was a "house" name that the original publisher used for all the Doc adventures. Every one of those hallowed pulp magazines as well as the 1960s Bama-cover paperbacks were ostensibly written by Robeson...who, most of the time, was actually Lester Dent. Decidedly a less romantic-sounding name. But Will Murray is nothing if not respectful of pulp traditions, so that's why this boasts Robeson's name up front, once again.
