- Full Description
The Nemesis of Crime returns in two classic pulp novels, both from 1940. First, voodoo drums sound in cities across the nation as a wave of mysterious murders fueled by ancient magic takes a terrifying toll in "The Black Bat's Crusade," edited by future Batman editors Mort Weisinger and Jack Schiff! Then, "The Black Bat's Flame Trail" leads to a sinister arsonist who wields a deadly torch of terror as New York tenements burn. Plus, The Mask returns in a 6-page comic adventure from Nedor's Exciting Comics #4.
The Mask was based on The Black Bat, and the one here is drawn by artist Kin Platt. The Black Bat was blinded and scarred by a mob acid attack, so now D.A. Tony Quinn makes the night his weapon as The Black Bat. Steamy covers with bondage and shoot-outs by Rafael DeSoto and Rudolph Belarski, both important and veteran cover artists for the pulps and, a few years later, lurid paperback covers.
All the interior illustrations from the original pulps, by Harry Parkhurst and V.E. Pyles. Publisher Anthony Tollin offers an essay, "The Versatile Kin Platt," and author Will Murray offers an insider's look at both stories.
