The Knight of Darkness resumes his true identity of Kent Allard, with cool art by Edd Cartier and a bonus feature on Shadow Comics artist Charles Coll. First, a plague of sleeping sickness hits New York, and only The Shadow can uncover the secret of the death gas and revive "The Dead Who Lived!" Both original color covers by George Rozen and Modest Stein and the interior illustrations by Edd Cartier and Charles Coll, with historical commentary by Will Murray.

Charles Coll was the primary artist on Street and Smith's long-running Shadow Comics and one of the better artists of the Golden Age. No wonder, he was brother to the famous illustrator Joseph Clement Coll, which we never before realized. Coll also illustrated two popular newspaper strips, Roy Powers Eagle Scout and Myra North, Special Nurse. Both are under-appreciated adventure strips which were reprinted for many years in the pages of the seminal comic, Famous Funnies. Coll also did spot illustrations for the regular Shadow pulps, and cover paintings for two 1947 Shadow digests, as well as the Shadow Annual.
