- Full Description
Signed on the limitation page by the author and by the famous DC artist Ramona Fradon, on a special page with a composite illustration of many of her Silver Age characters: Metamorpho, Aquaman, Metal Men. Coffee-table books of vintage comics are no rarity, but this is something else entirely: most artwork is reproduced from original art, and Herman provides perceptive insights into each artist's work. The focus is on the second generation of comic-book creators, beginning in 1956: western, war and the best superheros of the 1960s..
It began with the revival of the Flash by DC, and the Silver Age ran to the end of the 1960s, when Marvel had become the predominant publisher but DC was still in there with some wonderful books, including a new generation of artists emerging, such as Neal Adams.
He pays tribute to the best-known artists, such as Jack Kirby and Gil Kane; praises the less-renowned, equally deserving likes of Alex Toth and Dan Barry; and nods appreciatively to a host of talented journeymen. While vividly presented artwork will draw casual comics readers, hardcore buffs will prize Herman's authoritative commentary.
Note: This is an out of print, rare book. It is nearly perfect condition, in very fine.
