The story of the traditional outlaw and hero of English ballads. His chief haunt was Sherwood Forest, in Nottinghamshire. The story tells of his personal courage, his skill in archery, his generosity and his great popularity. Legend has that he robbed the rich and gave to the poor, and protected women and children.
