A full-color, profusely illustrated companion novel to The Cats of Tanglewood Forest. A captivating adventure about magic, family, and the power in believing in both. When it comes to fairies, Sarah Jane Dillard must be careful what she wishes for. She may have thought she wanted to meet the fairies of the Tanglewood Forest, but that was before she knew the truth about them. When she discovers a tiny man wounded by a cluster of miniature poison arrows, she brings him to the reclusive Aunt Lillian (star of Cats, when SHE was a young girl) for help.

But the two quickly find themselves ensnared in a longtime war between rival fairy clans, and Sarah Jane's six sisters have been kidnapped to use as ransom. Her only choice is to go after them, and with the help of several mythical friends--from the Apple Tree Man to a cat called Li'l Pater--she'll have to find a way to untangle herself from the fairy feud before she and her sisters are trapped in their world forever.

This is based on the same family and magical forest world of The Cats of Tanglewood Forest. It's also in exactly the same format, with dozens and dozens of full color plates, chapter headings and vignettes, which Charles Vess is so good at creating. Tanglewood Forest was a top, top seller for us, because it's a delightful, fun fantasy novel that is good for all ages, from a fan like myself to kids of ten or 12 years old. And this carries on that adventure. This story was first published in a very limited edition in 2002 by Subterranean Press and has been scarce and highly collectible for years. Now Charles Vess has added all kinds of all-new art to make this a perfect book for anyone who loves fantasy.

I work one day a week in a local used & rare bookstore called Booktown Books. I never hesitate to recommend this and Tanglewood to mothers, pre-teen and early-teen kids, or just hip young people. These two and Gaiman's The Graveyard Book are best young adult novels ever.
