- Full Description
The eight final issues of Fiction House's original run of comics, including several fabulous final covers by the superb Maurice Whitman. Inside each issue are three classic stories, most by journeyman Robert Webb, also known for his work on Classics Illustrated, along with some rare appearances of Jay Disbrow plus all the back-up stories by Charles Sultan and others. Classic Good-girl art!
She may still be everyone's favorite yellow-tressed leopard-skin-clad Jungle Jane, swinging through the trees righting wrongs and wielding her knife.
In 1938, she was featured in Jumbo Comics #1 where she settled happily in every issue--165 of them--plus a decade in her own title, as collected here. There have been other incarnations, of course (you can't keep a doll like Sheena down for long . . . though many have tried) but it's this classic material that strikes at the very heart of Good Girl Art.
Includes a special introduction from Lantz, "Queen of the TV Jungle," looking closely at Irish McCalla's reincarnation of the comics heroine. Over 200 ladies tried out for the 1953 audition--Irish edged them all out, including finalists Anita Ekberg and Debra Paget! McCalla had been a "Varga Girl" model and was recommended by photographer Tom Kelley. Kelly thought Irish was a perfect match for comics' Sheena. Accompanied by dozens of photographs of Irish, this goes into detail on the series and her career.
