"In the late 1960s, Stan visited Paris at the height of popularity of "Juliet du Mon Coeur," as his strip was known there. As he left his hotel one morning, he saw a swarm of press and photographers waited for, he assumed, some celebrity. They were waiting for him. He was front-page news. When he returned to his hotel later that day, the concierge informed him he had a caller on hold who wanted to speak with him, and to please hurry...fais vite!

The caller was Brigitte Bardot, phoning from a film set, gushing with utter delight that she was a huge fan of the distinguished American artist." From Bill's Introduction.
