$20.00
Still in print after 47 years! Our Highest Recommendation. Written and with a wrap-around cover by Jim Steranko. Artist, writer, publisher, magician, film storyboard designer....he has done it all. Here Jim Steranko goes back to his first love and chronicles the epic story of comics' Golden Age creators and super-heroes. Emphasis is on the Quality and Fawcett heroes in this volume, as well as ”Flying Heroes” like Airboy and Captain Midnight, and extra-length coverage of Will Eisner and The Spirit. Blackhawk, Captain Marvel, Mary Marvel, Plastic Man, Uncle Sam, Dollman, and others! More than 455 dynamite vintage covers! Bonus all-new full-page art by Reed Crandall (Blackhawk) and Ken Bald (Fawcett heroes). Some copies have slight bumps or small tears to the cover.

The entire book is oversized and superbly designed by Steranko! This was one of the first and still best best histories of Golden Age heroes, heroines, companies and creators, from the point of view of the brilliant creator himself. Steranko grew up reading all the comics he discusses, and as he became a professional, he rubbed shoulders with and interviewed his favorite creators, an inside track that he shares with us here.

I decided to bring these back in, once again, because we always sell each batch out and often I can’t get more! Also, I still meet fans at every show who are looking for a copy. Jim’s still got copies from his original printing and every so often offers them once again to retailers. Volume 1 is long gone, though occasionally we will find a copy for our Rare & Out of Print section.

I'd long forgotten Steranko must have gotten new art from some creators, such as the wonderful portrait of the Blackhawks that is obviously a new piece by Reed Crandall. We've included a scan of that here. The second color scan is the backcover art, as this features an amazing wrap-around full color cover of dozens of heroes, all newly portrayed by Steranko himself.

Note: These copies are from 1972, and they are not mint. Some have slight bumps or small tears to the cover near the spine.
