By Syd Mead. This very scarce book was published by US Steel in 1962. It is a glimpse into US Steel's idea of the future for steel technology, engineering and design for future cars and multi-use transportation vehicles. It was designed and illustrated by Syd Mead. This is one of five books Mead illustrated for US Steel that included "Concepts", "Progressions", "Innovations" and "Interface". These were promotional books sent to the heads of automotive design centers, engineers and the like and not sold commercially to the public. Thus, these books remain quite scarce.

Syd Mead is regarded as one of America's most influential "visual futurist" designers and concept artists. He illustrated books and catalogues for large corporate clients such as Allis Chalmers, Phillips Electronics and United States Steel long before his work in the movie industry on films like Blade Runner, Star Trek, Aliens and Tron.

Includes four color acetate sheet overlays showing a futuristic car's component break down: 1. Outer Shell: 2. Engine & Seating: 3. Structure/Unibody: 4. Suspension.

Note: This is an out of print, used and/or rare book. It is not as-new, in "mint" condition. Front cover, back cover and spine with embossed pattern--I believe this is white leather. There are four clear plastic pages with color overlays. All inside pages are clean with no fading, marks or cuts. All color illustrations are rich and bright.

Cover shows light wear with some loss to the embossed texture pattern, and to the black of the debossed title logo. Very minor soiling from handling. One top corner, rear, is lightly bumped. There are a few light marks on the rear endpapers, and at the edge of the endpapers, where they are glued down, there is a minor discoloration as if the glue darkened where it came out slightly. Overall condition is very good.
