- Full Description
This small but packed book chronicles the adventure and process that filled six years of Sandy Collora's life, creating the short film Shallow Water. This begins with doodles and sketches, then more detailed renderings and maquettes, and then the primary focus is on creature creation, make up, and full 3D monsters. It went through many phases and started and stopped many times along the way. Nice companion volume to his series of creature design books.
"I'm an artist. I was an artist before I started making films and I'll always be an artist. The camera is an extension of my body, just like a pencil, paint brush or sculpting tool. Film, I feel is the natural evolution for me-- an outlet to tell my stories visually through a moving medium.
Why an art book about a short film?
The independent genre voices of our industry are important. Crucial, actually to the growth and development of entertainment outside what the studios keep doing and shoving down our throats every summer. I grew up with all this stuff and I love it, believe me-- the big sci-fi, horror and superhero franchises, but rather than want to do more of what everyone else is doing by following these trends, they've inspired me to come up with my own characters, stories and worlds, unique to me. I would rather leave my own footprint, no matter how small, than walk in the paths of others." ~Sandy
