- Full Description
Pre-Code horror at its wildest and most bizarre. Pushing the limits of good taste? You bet! "They Couldn't Die!," "Torture Travelogue," "Vanishing Cadavers," "Voodoo Canvas," "Good Bye World!," "Satan's Plaything," "Blood Revenge," "The King of Hades," "Skulls of Doom," etc. Michael Price's introduction puts these into context with fifties horror movies. Nearly all story art is attributed to the Iger Shop, which included Robert Webb and others who made the Fiction House titles like Jungle and Sheena so successful.
And one great batch of covers, since the guys knew what sold on the covers: skeletons, skulls, devils, pretty girls being threatened. Some classics are here. Although at times they have that Matt Baker look, this was because Iger directly told his artists to imitate their former staff member..some figures may have even been lifted from earlier Baker work, such as the sarong-wrapped lady on the very cover of this.
The stories can't really be compared to EC, but for just wild good fun, these are the classics of pre-code days...just what Wertham wanted to ban from the hands of kid readers.
