Our Highest Recommendation. By Bhob Stewart, J. Michael Catron, Roger Hill, Larry Hama, Bill Pearson et al. Bursting with a cornucopia of gorgeous artwork and photos, this volume features vivid remembrances by Wood's friends, colleagues, assistants, and loved ones. Even as they explore his playful spirit and psychological twists, they frankly discuss his struggles with censorship and alcoholism and his worst enemy--his own fatalism. Carefully compiled over more than three decades by Wood assistant Bhob Stewart, this completes a remarkably revealing and intimate portrait of a legendary comics creator.

Contributors include Larry Hama, John Workman, Trina Robbins, Paul Krassner, Flo Steinberg, Tom Sutton, Bill Pearson, Tatjana Wood, and Paul Levitz. A special tribute gallery includes artwork by Robert Crumb, Dan Clowes, Michael T. Gilbert, Al Feldstein, Dave Sim, Michael Cho, Drew Friedman, and Marie Severin. Full-color illustrations throughout. And we are treated to some of the most unusual Wood artwork ever, sometimes never before collected. Many of the reproductions are from rare original artwork only accessed because of the contributor's willingness to share them in this collection.

For instance, the cover of this and volume 1 present entirely new versions of Wood's finest EC cover pieces. He was commissioned to do these by Russ Cochran sans type and logos and thus we are treated to entirely new takes on his finest EC work. Roger Hill talks about how special these are.

This and the first volume are must-have items for any true Wood fan. I've read just about everything ever written about Wood, as he is one of my very favorite comic artists. Yet this offers entirely new material, such as studio-mates talking about life with Woody, working on projects together, dealing with publishers and fellow artists. It's very behind the scenes on Wood's work from the 1960s on.

Introduction by Ed Piskor.
