- Full Description
Beginning with the rare Daredevil Battles Hitler (#1),The first issues of one of the longest running and best titles of the Golden Age, all from 1941! And starring one of the most innovative super heroes: DD was only armed with a boomerang and lots of smarts--and his dynamic red and blue costume. Here he begins his decade-long battle with The Claw, who appears in all four issues. Publisher Lev Gleason was a smart, innovative company that knew the value of good stories and strong artists--the infamous Crime Does Not Pay is their best-known title today.
Note: The only thing this DD has in common with Bill Everett and Marvel's creation in the sixties is the name.
Here is Jack Cole, just prior to his move to Quality Group to create Plastic Man. George Roussos, an under-rated but strong artist who had a long career at DC, and Jerry Robinson, who wrote and drew the wartime character London in these issues. We know Robinson today as the creator of The Joker and the long-time "ghost" artist of Batman.
Here too is Reed Crandall, drawing a fun lady heroine Pat Patriot: America's Joan of Arc, and several stories by Dick Briefer, artist/writer of Frankenstein.
This includes more interesting "back-up" heroes: Nightro, Whirlwind, the Blonde Bomber, Silver Streak, guest-starring here but who had his own title, Lance Hale, The Pirate Prince, Bronze Terror, and others. The Claw actually gangs up with Hitler, no less, in #1.
Daredevil dishes out justice to Nazis, mobsters, mummies, and the hate-mongering Claw! This collects four massive 64-page issues that today in just "fine" condition are valued at a mere $6600.00.
In the famous first issue, Daredevil teams up with every other hero in the book to battle both Hitler and The Claw, now working together! This is surprisingly similar to how the Justice Society of America stories were put together in DC's All Star Comics. Hitler photo cover!
This was published in 2013 but still available, so I thought this was a significant enough collection to bring it back into stock for anyone who missed it the first time around. We're also going to restock Silver Streak #1-2. Daredevil actually started his career in SS, and it was published by the same Lev Gleason and boasts the same great creators--and some others I'll point out when they come in.
