- Full Description
Walt Kelly's Pogo, one of the most important, influential, and beloved comic strips of all time, first appeared not in newspapers but as a feature in the first issue of the Dell comic book Animal Comics, in 1942. The complex, multi-layered, character-rich world of Pogo and the Okefenokee Swamp started in these early stories, written primarily for kids but still a step above!
And the artwork...just superb! This includes all Pogo stories (with Albert and the entire crew) from Animal Comics #1-3, 5, 8-30, 1942-47. This also includes all the covers of these issues--not necessarily Pogo, but all great fun, as you can see from our reproductions here.
Includes a 14-page introduction, with early photos of Kelly and original Pogo art. Spread throughout the book is more original artwork, nicely reproduced panels with blue lines and ink, from the late 1940s. Afterword by Mark Burnstein.
The next volume will collect the Dell Four Color Pogos.
Archival hardcover, digitally reconstructed to perfection.
