A beautiful celebration of the life and imagery of Japan's master of fantasy and science fiction art! This handsome, landscape-style hardback contains nearly 400 illustrations and photos from the incredible career of Final Fantasy designer, graphic novelist and painter Yoshitaka Amano. Amano's artistic journey goes back to his first job in 1967--age 15, working on Speed Racer! From animator, to illustrator, to internationally exhibited painter, this biography is a look into the work of Amano's life and the influences, techniques, philosophy, and family that have nurtured it.
It's a very impressive volume. Not only are we treated to artwork both classic and previously unpublished, but we also see the artist at work, with his family, at events, offering a well-rounded look at a driven creator and how his life revolves around his passion--his art. Introduction by biographer Florent Gorges.
I had to look at the price again to be sure we hadn't made a mistake...this looks like a book that should sell for $75, $85 or more from a high-end art book publisher like Abrams. This is a real bargain. Congratulations to Dark Horse on creating a very special and yet affordable volume.
